Heroes Wear Dog Tags
Many people spent the weekend firing up the grill and watching Spiderman, and X-Men pretend to be superheroes. Real superheroes wear dog tags not capes. Heroes have bravery, and honor, for super human powers. They don't live in Gotham, or wear funny suits, but they answer the call to save the world repeatedly. "A veteran is someone who at one point in his or her life wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount of "up to and including my life." (Unknown Author) Some battle wounds can't be seen. Today be grateful for all the sacrifices our military makes for us. They have all given more than words can convey. Some wounds are visible, many are not. There are many casualties of war: marriages, limbs, peace of mind, physical health, to name a few. Still the brave men and women in our military willingly take a vow to serve, to protect, to defend no matter what that oath may cost them. What's more heroic than that? The X-Men are great, but today and everyday my heroes wear dog tags.
Heroes never die. They live on in our hearts. Our memories remind us what they stood for, what they died for and should inspire us all to dig a little deeper and be a little better. We often take our freedom and our plush lifestyle for granted. We fall asleep knowing the sun will rise in the morning and our flag and all the ideals it represents will still stand. Rest easy tonight, freedom will still be here in the morning because we will always be the home of the BRAVE.
To all those who've served, thank you for all the sacrifices big and small. To those we've lost, you will be missed, we will remember and honor you always. Goodbyes are final so, I'll see you at the next duty station. Salute
